Teacher says, every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings
As many of you should know that famous statement was made at the end of a movie called "It's a wonderful life". Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed where the main actors and it keys on two people and their struggles thru life.
It's a great movie filmed in 1946 and it actually flopped as a box office hit. But over time, people grew to love the movie and it is broadcast ever Christmas. We even own a copy. Ruth and I make a point to watch it every year.
Well I chose the title today, because Ruth and I attended a funeral today. An aunt of mine passed on Monday and the funeral was today. We traveled the day before to ensure weather didn't hinter us and it didn't.
We made it to the wake and were able to meet some relatives who we never see except at these events.
This aunt was one of my favorites, as to me she always had a smile and had a funny little way of tossing her head about when something tickled her. Not sure if anyone else ever noticed it, but she did.
I honestly cannot remember anytime were she was down and out or angry at something or someone. I am sure she was from time to time, because of challenges in her life, but I never saw it.
My favorite memory of her was the day I stopped into their store. Not really sure why I was there, but more then likely I was bored and looking for/at new record players that I could not afford.
She and I were chatting and the phone rang. Of course she went and answered it, and after listening for a little bit she started to ask questions like-- What kind of washer/dryer they where interested in. After a few more question, she hung up the phone and went back to bookkeeping
Because the questions were odd in timing, I must have had a puzzled look on my face. She looked up from what she was doing and then preceded to tell me, that it was a siding or window sales call looking to pitch their product.
She found that if she tried to sell them an appliance instead, they would hang up fast and go on about their business. To me that was great marketing, using their nickle to sell them an appliance.
Anyway like I stated this lady was always kind to me and from what I saw at the church with all the people who attended, she was kind to many.
We will all miss her, but will never forget.
I think we all heard the bell ring today.
