I have lost touch with the cost of everything.

We went to a farm sale today and did I get a wake up call. Wrenches went for $100.00 per handful, air compressor for $1000.00. They even sold lawn mowers with major defects for $400.00. All this stuff you could purchase new for less money, but these people just kept lifting their hands and they all looked happy to do it.

One of the key draws to the sale was old tractors. They had a F-30 Farmall which sold for $1400, a Oliver 70 for $900, a John Deere B for $1300, and a Hart-Deering that I thought would go high bit it only sold at $400.00. Interesting thing about these is that all of them were in such bad shape and they all had motors stuck. They also sold a Farmall F15 but I do not remember what it sold for.

The icing on the cake was a John Deere A tractor. I wish I had taken my camera to support this statement. It had no motor in it, as it laid in pieces beside the tractor. The tractor itself was in really bad shape but it was on steel wheels and not rubber. It quickly took off and quickly dropped to 2 bidders after it went over $1000.00. From that point on it was just 2 guys and they just kept ratcheting it up. It finally ended when the purchase price hit $3600.00.

Then they turned their attention to the motor parts on the ground.

YEP the motor didn't go with the tractor. All the parts went for about $600.00, so the whole tractor went for over $3700.00. Now I have to admit that the tractor wheels and possibly some other pieces were worth some money, but not this high.

After the bidding was completed, it was announced that the winner of the tractor had purchased it because the tractor was purchased new by his father. Too bad he had to spend that much money for a piece of his own history, and I wondered if the guy bidding against him would have stopped if he knew this from the get go.

Anyway, the second item that floored both Mike and I was traps. This guy was an trapper and there were 80 groups of traps and each group contained 10 traps. They had a standing starting bid at $2500.00 for all, so the bid was for all.

The bidding took off and like I said Mike and I just looked at each other and then into the shop where they all hung. We would then just look at each other again and look into the shop. Bidding finally ended $100.00 short of $4000.00

Anyone want to buy a handfull of wrenchs?

Anyone?
