Not in Kansas anymore Toto
Hi all:
We made it to Elk City, Oklahoma late yesterday. Not sure if anyone cares but Kansas is a big state to cross. Not much there but oil wells pumping and a few cattle. In fact we saw a COW OVERPASS in the state. They think so much of their cattle that they built a multi-million dollar overpass just so they could back trucks of the highway and load them. I can only guess that they backed the big trucks over the top and loaded from the other side.
By the way Lyle, NO more mud. Weather was around 65-70 when we finally pulled off and parked. Unless we find something here to keep us, we will move on for one more day and then park for a little bit. Kinda getting tired of the drive.
As for the GPS system, it took us on some back roads today. We missed one turn during that time, and boy can that thing nag ya. It points out every dirt road and tells you to turn around-recalculating. After awhile you just toss it in the back seat because it wants to drive.
Kansas has some interesting back roads. We kept to the hard surface roads but when they have side roads, they hard-top it about 30 feet then let it go to dirt. It didn't look like there was any other maintenance done to them at all. Of course there is nothing out there but grass-land so I guess they don't need to. I do have to admit that they build very large grain silos. They all look like what we build back home, but to a much larger scale.
Oh did I tell ya that it is 65-70 now and the mud is gone.
