Now I've seen everything!

Ok you guy, I finally found out what Minnesota people do during the winter months here. Over the years everyone was wondered about this and now your about to find out.

Last night we went to their hall of fame (MetroDome) to watch the so called Monster Truck rally. This means we sat inside a canvas covered hut with a capacity of 50,000 people. If this place was located in Wisconsin then it would have been located over a fishin hole, with everyone hope to catch the big-one. But here in Minnesota they just come and drink beer and rev their engines.

Keep in mind that it was about 17 below last night so sitting anywhere inside is better then standing anywhere outside. It was so cold that I actually had to but my stocking cap on when we parked and headed towards the canvas hut.

The show started with the usual announcements and of course with my crappy hearing, all I could here were sounds that sounded like adults speaking on a Charlie Brown cartoon. (WAW WAW WAW WAW WAW)

Once the show cranked up it was fun to watch but you can only watch loud noisy trucks circle the hut so many times. Of course people were drinking 6 dollar beers and chewing on stale hotdogs all along.

2/3rds of the way into the show they halted/parked all the big trucks and what next happened I could not have made up if I tried. Keep in mind that it does take beer and cold weather to dream this up.

Out came 13 cars or trucks pulling trailers of all types. I will listed them as I remember them for easy reading

Car with a pop-up camper with all dangerous components removed.
Cars pulling trailer's with a TV, rocking horse, sofa, fence, lawn mower, teddybear, etc
2 Cars pulling boats
And others with just stuff that I don't remember.

I think the quidelines were that they just had to be pulling a trailer and something had to be on it. I finally figured out that the only rule was that the last unit with a trailer attached was the winner. In other words we watched about 13 vehicles circle the hut going as fast as they could and attempt to knock everyone else's trailer off. I know it sounds weird, but I have to admit this was the highlight of the show.

The race began and of course the camper didn't last at all. In-fact I'm not sure it even made the first turn. But the frame was still on its wheels so it was in the race. It didn't take long before the rocking horse was nothing but plastic dust. Smashed boats were no longer afloat and the couch was ready for recovering. A teddy-bear was lookin for a care-bear and needed some new stitches. The lawnmower was never going to mow again.

One of the funniest things was a small truck ran or was pushed onto another trailer and become the towed item. For the rest of the race, it hung there pinned and was pulled around the track. Both the car, its trailer and the truck never separated. Finally the guy in the truck gave up trying to back off and he just sat in the truck waving. Tires spinning under the unit so the smoke was just rolling.

Finally they called the race when only one unit had its trailer still attached, The car/trailer/truck combo was disqualified as they did not start out that way. Parts of units lay as trash all over and people were cheering the winner.

So now you all know what takes place in Minnesota in the winter time. For me, I'm going back to Iowa and pretend I never was at this show.

In fact I think I'll special order a Cheese_Head_Hat just so I look like I'm kinda normal to others in this climate.
