A standoff Monday was for naught after police gained entry to a Forest Avenue home and found no one inside.

The Fond du Lac Police Department responded to the 300-block of Forest Avenue at 10:57 a.m. after they were told a man with a weapon was inside and was threatening to harm himself, said Lt. Steve Klein of the Fond du Lac Police Department.

They surrounded the home and eventually gained entry early Monday afternoon only to find the man wasn’t there, Klein said.

Police returned to the home later Monday where they located the man and took him into protective custody, he said.

The street in front of the home was blocked off during the standoff.
