Iowa Agriprocessors take the high road.
Interesting article in the local state paper today. It was written by the leaders of the plant and talked about how they have taken the high road to labor and the laws. Reading the whole thing made you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. They talked that their workers were happy, the management was happy, and the mayor of Postville was happy. In fact halfway thru the article, I was feeling rather happy. I wanted to jump up and drive to the nearest DVD rental shop and rent that movie were kids go back to the 50s and everyone is in black and white. All warm and fuzzy with no cares , no worries.
Then I suddenly snapped out of my dream and finished reading the article. For some reason the article included (again written by the plant management), that they also took the high road in fixing a huge water pollution problem within the plant. Funny how a big fine by the state would make then take the high road, but that is another topic.
I finished the article and with a warm (not fuzzy) sip of my coffee, I thought to myself, they sure sound like angels over there.
I guess working people who came to our country under extreme circumstances, and paying them little means they are doing good over all.
They spoke of how they fired teenagers running the meat saws once they found out they were to young. I guess their screening at hire time wasn't done in the day light.
They spoke highly how they have changed their hiring practice to find better workers. That sounds good but they didn't mentioned that a different article spoke about a new contract-for-hire firm was looking at shipping in poor fishermen from some island close to Australia.
And again they spoke to the overall cost it to fix their water pollution issue. I guess that makes everyone comfortable who was drinking the water there before.
Yes I liked the way it was written. It made me feel warm and fuzzy. That's when I noticed that the warm and fuzzy must be coming from my shorts as I saw it was a pile of crap.
Not only does this company need a better HR system, but they also need a better PR department.
